What is School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES)?

Are you about to finish school or have you just left school? Do you want to build your confidence and become ‘job ready’? SLES is an NDIS support for young people with a disability. It can help you kick-start your career by building up your job skills, confidence and independence – and it’s available for up to two years after you finish school.

It can support you to:
Do what you already love as well as discover something new?
Grow confidence in a work environment
Develop employment skills
Develop new networks and open up new opportunities.

What skills will I learn?

There’s a huge range of skills you can learn to get you job ready. These include:

Communicating at work
Understanding what your employer needs from you
Learning how to take instruction from your employer
Working in a team
Health and safety
Travel Independence
Dressing for the workplace
Budgeting and money
Searching and applying for a job
Writing resumes and cover letters
Time management

Will I get hands-on work experience?

Yes! Work experience, tours and tasters are a key part of our SLES program.

When you’re looking for the job you love it can be hard.
By getting involved in work experience, tours and tasters of various worksites, you get a first-hand and up-close look at different work environments to see what you like, and think is the best fit for you.
